Hello, all you wonderful people!  I hope this isn't going against the rules or anything; I just think this is a fun event that needs to get the word out.

This Thanksgiving weekend, think about heading over to the Indie Banditas handmade craft bazaar!  There will be around 70 local artists and craftspersons from all around the Northwest.  It is on Bainbridge Island, 10 AM to 5 PM Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th.  There will even be a concert on Saturday!

You want to buy Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah/Solstice/Festivus gifts for your loved ones, right?  Then why not support local, independent businesses AND give your loved ones one-of-a-kind handmade gifts?  It's win-win!

You can find more information on the website: http://indiebanditas.com/Welcome.html
And a sampling of the vendors who will be there can be found on the blog: http://indiebanditasbazaar.blogspot.com/

Hope to see a least some of you there!

What the heck is happening out there? It sounds like the whole dang police department and all of their helicopters are out there.

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

Selling computer stuff again, this time a netbook. I don't have a picture on me at the moment, but it looks like this:

It has 4 (or, cant remember ) 8GB of HD space
512 MB RAM
Windows XP
Built-In Webcam
7inch Screen

Selling this for $150. Its in great condition. Its just been sitting on a shelf and its fairly new. Not close to being a year old. I got it during the summer. There's a NWS Heart skateboard sticker on the front. That's the only thing. It comes with a charger, power cable, and all my files will be deleted and a new account made if you want it before you get it.

Feel free to email me @ Videlcoolgirl@gmail.com if you're interested, or post here too. I work on campus, so it should be fairly easy to meet. You can even test it.

I also have PC computer parts available.

2 - 1GB sticks RAM - $30 Each
1 Dual Monitor Stick
- $35 ( You have to open your box for this, and put it in manually. So you can have two screens instead of one)
1 19inch Monitor - $100

November 11th, 2009: Here is some exciting news that Laura the Zoologist sent to me! Do you have something gross lying around your house? Of course you do. Well, it turns out that you can now get a free scanning electron micrograph of ANYTHING. Fill out a form, send in your object sample, and they'll post the result on their site!

Guys we all have to do this!

A little down in the dumps and feeling rather unwanted and unattractive. I know it's not the case and I know many of you love me and care about me. Still, I'm getting rather frustrated with the trend of going out with someone a couple of times and then have them basically break things off without any real good reason that I am aware of.

Overall it makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with me. Am I that boring or uninteresting to spend time with? Am I only attracted to people who, mostly, have absolutely no interest in me once they start to get to know me? [info]tygerdsebat is of course one notable exception.

Anyway, no need to say, "At least you have tyger!", etc. etc. I'm aware I have her, and I'm aware that poly isn't for everyone. I'm just frustrated overall.

Hopefully I can channel a lot of this energy into Notacon and music. We'll see, though. For me, being busy won't really change much of the base feeling. I'm sure good things will happen with both, etc. etc.

Anyway... yeah. I'm done.

FYI
I am taking part in a 6 part reenactment of the "first" homogenized milk processing plant in Western North America this evening.

I will playing the part of a Colloid Mill.

I don’t sing but I do read a little poetry.

[UPDATE]
i don't have a flyer for the event BUT agree that having one would be a "shot in the arm"

[UPDATE]
thanks for those of you who attended this evening. here is the flyer we had made up. I am the Colloid Mill on the right NOT the one on the left.

November 10th, 2009: In yesterday's comic T-Rex and Utahraptor talked about self-charging mp3 players (before everyone died) (quite a bit before everyone died). Utahraptor said "There are physical limits to what a -" before he was interrupted by T-Rex. If he'd been allowed to continue he would have said "There are physical limits to what a device such as that can do, and it wouldn't be enough, as I said earlier - assuming of course that the person lives a sedate lifestyle and barely uses their legs."

I say this because it turns out that people are ALREADY working on T-Rex's invention! In fact, they're such great people that they started working on it even before he invented it, and that's really something. Thank you everyone who sent me links to this Science Daily article and this NPR story. I even got some emails from researchers working on this very problem, which was kind of crazy, because I hadn't expected that! It made me think that if I'd written a comic about how you can converse in English with your dogs now instead, we'd all be waking up today to a world where, come Christmas 2009, a Dog Talker will be on the top of everyone's list!

Anyway that sounds pretty good to me!

UPDATE: Guys it turns out that dog translators exist, I am going to think really hard about what my third invention will be before posting it here; I don't want to waste it.

UPDATE 2: Okay the idea of using breasts as a power source was just a stray thought, I didn't mean for it to come true! I need to get a handle on controlling this new-found power.

I think this is a fantastic idea - the obsession with "OMG0dZ0r WEATHER!~" is one of the things I love about Seattle and the PNW in general.

Missing SeaTac man found living out of state

The King County sheriff's office says a man who had been reported as missing nearly two years ago has been found alive and well, living in another state.

The Associated Press

SEATTLE —

The King County sheriff's office says a man who had been reported as missing nearly two years ago has been found alive and well, living in another state.

Detectives determined last week Nicholas Francisco had changed his name.

The 28-year-old was supposedly heading home to bake cookies with his children when he dropped out of sight Feb. 13, 2008, after leaving work.

His car was found a few days later, abandoned in Federal Way. An extensive investigation by the sheriff's office turned up no sign of a crime.

His wife filed for divorce in May, citing "willful abandonment."
